Brief Bio of Byron


Byron Caplan was born and raised in Frederick, MD, USA.  He received his BFA from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago and MFA at Yale University.


Caplan worked in television news during the 80’s and early 90’s.  He worked as a videographer/editor at KYW-TV, in Philadelphia, PA, an NBC affiliate (now CBS O&O).   He covered four presidential campaigns, and shot several Emmy winning news stories.


During the middle 90’s, Caplan was a freelance producer in Maine where he won a Boston/New England Emmy for producing at Maine Public Broadcasting.


In the late 90’s, Caplan re-entered academia and spent 15 years teaching television/digital cinema production at the college level. During that time he produced a documentary on Smalltown American Celebrations.


Caplan has re-entered the media industry and is currently working a historical documentary on the early 20th century absurdist arts movement, known as Dada.  It is titled, “Random Acts of Beauty: The Story of Dada.”
